Abstract

The persistent challenge of suboptimal employee performance in Nigeria’s hospitality sector, despite the increasing adoption of digital systems, informed this study on the Effect of E-Human Resource Practices on the Performance of Employees in Selected Hotels in Abuja. The main objective was to examine how E-Recruitment and Selection, E-Training and Development, and E-Performance Management affect Task Performance, Employee Retention, and Service Quality. The research employed a descriptive survey design, targeting a population of 1,365 employees from five major hotels in Abuja: Abuja Continental Hotel, Transcorp Hilton, Fraser Suites, Sheraton Hotel, and Bolton White Hotel. A sample size of 362 was determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s (1970) table with an added 20% margin of safety, and stratified random sampling was employed to ensure representative participation across hotel departments. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis via SPSS version 27. Findings revealed that E-Recruitment and Selection significantly enhanced task performance, E-Training and Development had a positive effect on employee retention, and E-Performance Management significantly improved service quality. The study concluded that E-HRM practices are critical drivers of employee performance in Abuja’s hospitality sector. It recommends that hotel managers invest in robust digital HR infrastructures, particularly in recruitment, training, and performance evaluation systems, to sustain employee efficiency, commitment, and service excellence. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by validating theoretical models in the context of a developing economy and offers practical frameworks for optimizing workforce performance through digital transformation.
